Regarding customer experience, the distinction between shellac and other gels is not significantly noticeable.
Shellac tends to have a slightly softer feel. The color options vary as well, although shellac offers a wide selection. The primary difference lies in the 'butterfly' removal. While most gel polish systems require filing and sometimes 20 minutes of soaking to remove, CND shellac does not necessitate buffing and can be removed in as little as 5 minutes, depending on the topcoat used.
This is due to the formula's microscopic tunnels throughout the polish. During removal, acetone can penetrate these tunnels to the base layer, releasing the polish from the nail without scraping or forcing. The layers should break into small pieces and self-remove with minimal effort.
Curious of what gel polish made up of?
Curious to know the technical part of what gel polish are make up of, here is the answer: -
Both gel and shellac polishes have an acrylic base. Gel polishes are made with a mix of oligomers (acrylic monomers) that combine and harden under a UV light. Shellac works in a similar way, but it combines a mix of gel polish (for longevity and strength) and traditional nail polish (for the colour pay off) to create a manicure that's thinner than regular gel polish but harder than regular nail polish.
However, rest assured that we select only polishes that care for our nails.
